Couples Counseling Intensive
A More Focused Approach to Healing, Reconnection, and Lasting Change
When your relationship matters, meaningful change deserves dedicated time and attention.
Relationships can become strained even when both partners are intelligent, motivated, and deeply committed to one another. Demanding careers, family responsibilities, unresolved resentment, broken trust, and past emotional wounds can leave couples feeling disconnected despite their best efforts to repair the relationship.
Couples counseling intensives offer an opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life and focus intentionally on your relationship. Rather than limiting the work to a traditional weekly therapy session, an intensive provides dedicated time to explore longstanding patterns, address underlying emotional injuries, and develop new ways of communicating and connecting with your partner.
We offer personalized, trauma-informed couples counseling intensives in Tampa, Florida. We implement evidence-based and experiential approaches to help couples move beyond repetitive conflict and toward greater understanding, emotional safety, and connection.
Your relationship does not need to be in crisis to benefit from our couples intensive program. We created a customized program tailored to your specialized needs and goals.
Intensives may be appropriate for couples experiencing:
- Recurring arguments and communication breakdowns
- Emotional disconnection, loneliness, or loss of intimacy
- Infidelity, betrayal, and the process of rebuilding trust
- Attachment injuries and unresolved relationship wounds
- Trauma-related responses that affect intimacy and communication
- Differences in emotional needs, conflict styles, or attachment patterns
- Challenges associated with parenting, career demands, or major life transitions
- A desire to strengthen an already healthy relationship

An Integrative Approach to Couples Counseling
Every relationship has its own history, strengths, and challenges. Rather than relying on a single therapeutic model, we draw from a range of approaches to create an individualized experience that addresses both the emotional and relational dynamics affecting your relationship or marriage.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT helps partners identify deeper emotions and attachment needs to address recurring conflicts. By understanding the cycle that keeps you stuck, you can begin responding to one another with greater openness, compassion, and emotional security.
Gottman Method Couples Therapy
Gottman-informed interventions help couples recognize destructive communication patterns, manage conflict more constructively, strengthen friendship, and rebuild the foundation of their relationship. The goal is to foster greater understanding, respect, and connection.
Imago Relationship Therapy
Imago-informed dialogue encourages intentional listening, mutual understanding, and empathy. This approach can help partners explore how past experiences influence present-day relationship dynamics while creating opportunities for deeper connection.
Psychodrama and Experiential Therapy
Sometimes, talking about a problem is not enough to release feelings or change how it affects a relationship. Experiential methods, including psychodrama, can help couples explore emotional experiences, gain new perspectives, and practice different ways of relating in a structured therapeutic setting.
Discernment Counseling
Discernment counseling offers a structured, compassionate approach to helping couples gain clarity about their relationship and decide on a path forward. Through individualized reflection and guided conversations, partners explore their concerns, recognize the patterns that have brought them to this point, and consider their options with greater understanding. The goal is not to pressure either partner to stay or leave, but to support a thoughtful, informed decision about the future of the relationship. For couples navigating significant uncertainty, a discernment-focused intensive may provide dedicated space to explore these questions with intention and care, when appropriate for the couple’s needs.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
When appropriate, Accelerated Resolution Therapy may be incorporated to address distressing memories and emotional responses that continue to affect an individual or the relationship. ART is a form of rapid eye movement therapy that utilizes bilateral stimulation to address complex trauma. ART is a structured, trauma-focused approach that may help reduce the emotional intensity associated with difficult experiences. Its use is individualized and does not replace the broader relational work required for couples therapy.
Why Choose a Couples Counseling Intensive?
Traditional weekly couples therapy can be valuable, but some couples prefer a more concentrated opportunity to focus on their relationship.
An intensive creates dedicated space for deeper exploration, focused therapeutic work, and the development of practical strategies for change. It can be particularly appealing to couples with demanding schedules who want to prioritize their relationship without relying exclusively on weekly appointments.
Occasionally, traditional couples counseling might not have assisted in cultivating the changes a couple is seeking. Or maybe you are beginning to feel like your relationship is reaching a breaking point and you require more immediate relief.
Depending on your needs and goals, an intensive may focus on improving communication, understanding recurring relationship patterns, processing relational injuries, restoring emotional intimacy, or clarifying the path forward.
The goal is not simply to resolve an argument or establish a basic understanding of the relationship dynamics. We want to help you create lasting changes in your interpersonal relationship, heal old wounds, and foster emotional and physical intimacy.
Invest in Your Relationship
You may have invested years in your career, your family, and your personal growth. Your relationship deserves thoughtful attention, too.
Seeking couples counseling does not mean your relationship has failed. It can be a deliberate decision to address what is not working, strengthen what still matters, and create a more connected future.
If you and your partner are ready to move beyond familiar patterns and engage in meaningful relationship work, a couples counseling intensive may offer a valuable next step.
